Dresden is the capital of the German state of Saxony. The city is located in a scenic mountainous region in eastern Germany on the banks of the river Elbe. Due to the outstanding location, the pleasant climate, and the city's famous baroque architecture, Dresden is also called "Florence of the Elbe".

Dresden is a famous international city of art and culture, and was a world heritage site. Numerous historic sites, e.g. the rebuilt Church of Our Lady, the Dresden's Zwinger Palace and the famous Semper Opera House make the city very attractive.

Dresden is at the centre of the strongest economic region of the former East Germany. This is one of the strongest economic regions in Germany. A number of manufacturing companies such as AMD, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, Infinion and Quimonda have established themselves in the region. Many suppliers in the industrial sectors for cleanroom technology, special mechanical engineering and production of silicon wafers have settled in Dresden. The region is often described as Silicon Saxony, just as California has its Silicon Valley.
